AVID EDITING NOTES

OUTPUTTING

OUTPUTTING MY PROJECT

•If I don’t own external scopes, make sure the levels in the Output Tool are in the green position
•In the Settings tab, go to Deck Configuration/Deck Preference and make sure the deck is working correctly
•Render every effect in the sequence
•If I have more than 8 Audio Tracks, I will have to do an Audio Mixdown.
•To do an Audio Mixdown, highlight all the audio track selectors and go to Clip – Audio Mixdown. Choose Mono or Stereo and what Bin to go in and what Drive and OK. It will create a new Audio Mixdown Clip in my bin and it’ll place that clip in my timeline underneath all the pre-mixed audio tracks. I can either erase the old audio tracks and just leave the Audio Mixdown track. This will give better performance.
•If I have lots of effects and lots of layers, a Video Mixdown can also be performed.

AUDIO

•- 20 db is the standard
•When outputting a Mono Audio Track, open the Audio Mix Tool and set it to stereo and make sure the Mixer is set up to Center
•If Outputting to Digi Beta (4 channels)

BASIC OUTPUT

EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE RENDERED BEFORE OUTPUTTING. Select all my tracks that have effects or just all the tracks and then set an in point at the first frame and an out point at the last frame and then go to Clip - Render In/Out. Make sure it is going to the proper drive and click on OK. When it's done, I'm ready to output.

Go up to Clip - Digital Cut. Make sure my deck is on and properly connected. Make sure all of my tracks are selected that I want to output out to tape to. Going out to firewire is also OHCI. I can choose an entire sequence or just marked
in and out points. Better to choose Entire Sequence and Add Black at Tail.

If I choose Sequence Time it means the TC on the tape I'm going to will match the TC on the sequence. This is for when a tape has already been blackened.

Record Deck Time will start wherever the deck happens to be at. Mark In Time is when I mark an in time on the deck from the Digital Cut controls and marking an in time.

If I don't have a pro deck and just a DV camera, choose Local and do a crash record by doing it manually. Put the tape in and press record on the deck. Let it record for a bit and then hit play in the Digital Cut tool and let it record and when it's done, I can just hit stop on the deck.
